Gym Lighting Design Across The UK

Lighting sets the mood of your Gym

Lighting Design for Gyms

The proper Gym lighting design  should make a space feel clean and spacious, combined with a neutral wall finish, it can make even the smallest of gyms roomy. The primary purpose of lighting in the gym should be too enable the members to train safely and to their maximum.

Using Lighting control to maximise your gym

A lighting control system has many benefits for gyms. For gyms that don’t operate 24 hours a day, motion Sensors and other controls can dramatically reduce lighting costs by turning off or dimming the lights when people leave the gym. With using a control system that has RGBW (Red, Green, Blue, White) integrated allows for a more Immersive experience within studio classes.  Bright coloured lighting which are going to energize users will give you an intense affect. Lights can be programmed to change colour or intensity insync with high-energy music creating a great workout atmosphere. Areas where special classes are carried out such as yoga, Pilates, Zumba etc, it is very useful to have a control system to increase and decrease the light level and control lights separately.  A subtle lighting scheme can help users concentrate on their breathing, rhythm and focus in order to get the experience in the class. This means you can create the desired environment through lighting, which allows you to have versatility throughout the gym.

Using the correct light temperature

Hazards are certainly not few and far between within a gym. From busy periods to heavy weight being moved, the correct light temperature must be used for the safety of members. A color temperature of around 5000K, which is closest to daylight, has the same energising effects as natural light and also provides the most natural visibility which will help to keep the risk of potential injury at a minimum. By using the most up to date LED technology the colour rendering index (how well a light source will reveal the colors of items compared to sunlight) will be ideal for clarity.

Reduce Glare

One thing you should remember is that the gym has a lot of shiny surfaces. Shiny surfaces reflect light, which means they can maximise the amount of glare. Artificial lighting should be directed either through appropriate diffusers, or reflected off special surfaces that will diffuse the light. This will cause some loss in light intensity and may require higher intensity luminaires to be installed, however this requirement will be certainly worth it in terms of guest safety and comfort.
