Case Study: Mike Sacks
Working with Asco Lights benefits us greatly to accomplish and obtain the creative aspirations we have for interior design. Our close relationship means we an always discuss and plan our desired ideas, and with their knowledge and expertise we will always achieve the best to both our abilities.
We are constantly introduced to the new and exciting products Asco Lights have to offer, so we are always able to provide an intricate lighting design producing the best possible result for our client's space.
One of many projects we have worked on with Asco Lights includes this entire stunning residential project; in particular we focused on the client's bedroom. In this room it was important to be able to control the mood lighting and easily altered when required. By using the Rako system we were able to offer our client the ability to change the lighting at the touch of a button from a remote control.
Our many years of experience in furniture design allows us to create our interiors by using furniture not just as practical objects, but using the fantastic materials available, they can become sculptures in their own right.
This was exactly the idea for the client's bedroom, by designing a unique headboard made from deep etched glass panels, which also doubled up as a divide from the wardrobes behind. It was vital that this stunning feature was lit up to maximise its splendour. To achieve this, we worked closely with the Asco Lights' team to create a lighting method which would penetrate through the glass capturing the deep etched design rather then simply lighting it up. Using an LED strip running along the top and the bottom it produces a subtle wash through the glass. Controlled separately are the bedside lamps and the dimmable spots which overall generates a stunning and relaxing mood.
Adjacent to the bed was a beautiful chaise which was cleverly positioned to be directly lit from above by a double spot, creating a theatrical presence. Likewise behind, the curtains were also lit washing a pool of light down the fabric.
Both ourselves and Asco Lights are driven by producing interiors and lighting schemes which enhance and connect with the client's life style and interests. This was particularly key with this client who adored their art work and sculptures. For that reason we custom-made a glass top plinth for displaying one of their favourites. It was essential the light would be able to puncture through the thick layers of glass and still be able to wash light onto the wall behind. It was necessary then to use the expertise of Asco Lights for this unique circumstance, achieving the perfected end result.
In a multipurpose room, such as a living dining room it is fundamental to provide a lighting scheme which works for all activities both functionally and still creating a united scheme which provides the mood and ambience without contradicting each other. Here we were fortunate to have the expanse of glass which floods the room with an abundance of natural light. However in the evening it was important to segregate the cosy yet elegant dining space with the entertaining seating area. For this the lighting included washing the asymmetrical ceiling from within the lowered ceiling for a subtle warm glow. Directional spots circle the room unifying the entire space. Over the table are the stunning 'Slims' which provide a delicate light but also accenting the dining area.
When designing media walls incorporating lighting is never a last thought. Similarly, the bespoke design and carefully selected finishes the integration of architectural lighting can help create the final dramatic appearance. Either used subtly with a gentle LED strip, creates a glow which doesn't detract from the simple elegance of the TV surround.
Using symmetry in the lighting forms a balance of simplicity; here the column like light boxes consisting of a down lighter and an up lighter gives an illusion of a complete light void. Or conversely, adding more elements to a media wall design by including niches which can be cleverly lit up giving the opportunity to display objects of interest.
