Amir Khan

Amir Khan

The Design Brief

Asco Lights were contacted by the architects working for Khan Boxing Limited to assist in the development of a new wing to the residence of boxing legend Amir Khan. The brief was to create a lighting design that would fit with the palatial form of both the new wing and the existing building, and to offer the ultimate in home automation to allow for ambiance flexibility.

The Creative Process

Over the course of several initial meetings with the architects on the project it was established that this was no ordinary development. Having taken over from a previous firm there were numerous 'issues' that needed delicate handling to ensure both client satisfaction and building regulation compliance - issues that Asco Lights were more than capable of managing for our clients.

  • Step 1:To establish the extent of the project. The project consisted of the lighting and home automation of an indoor swimming pool, gym, media room, bedrooms and an open plan kitchen/lounge/dining room.
  • Step 2:Lighting design on this project required an element of finesse. The client requested a slick modern lighting design that would suit the style of both the home and its flamboyant owner, offering control to change the mood and ambiance of each space at the touch of a button.
  • Step 3:To establish the areas of complexity on the project. The wide open spaces of the open plan rooms along with the impressive ceiling heights and building regulation issues left by the previous team were challenging, but not insurmountable.
  • Step 4:Asco Lights offered both consultancy advice on the lighting design and lighting products to use within the space, but also assisted in the instigation of the lighting design by supporting the electrical engineers, builders and joiners in their related activities.
A Vision Realised

Asco Lights assisted the architects on this project to achieve a stunning example of lighting design and control for their client.

  • Bedroom space:An elegant and relaxing lighting design was achieved in this room by the use of sophisticated bedside lamps and spotlights along with other lighting designed to accentuate key features of the room such as the wash of light cascading down the curtain fabric or the double spots over a chaise longue.
  • Living and entertaining spaces: Areas of multi-purpose living space such as these require careful lighting design as the different regions will demand separate though complimentary lighting that is also adaptable depending on the use of the space. Home automation for mood lighting featured heavily here, giving the client full control to implement their own lighting design at will.
  • Pool space:A wash of star-like LED spotlights were used to illuminate the entire swimming pool, sauna and changing room space with clever use of up and down lighting along the walls to create a dramatic visual affect.
  • Vaulted staircase ceiling:One of the stunning centrepieces of this development was our long-drop crystal chandelier which shimmered down the entire length of the impressive mansion staircase.

With a considerable amount of expert help from Asco Lights this development was completed quickly and with a minimum of fuss to produce a fabulous extension to an already impressive home.
